Discussion 3: Cross Cultural Communication

Discussion 3: Cross Cultural Communication

Q Tasks 1. Complete the Cross Communication Worksheet. 2. After you've completed the worksheet, and using the worksheet to stimulate your thinking, describe an example either from your own life or from something you've witnessed (in real life or virtually) in which a conflict between communication styles was apparent. Use this week's lecture video for help in deciphering between indirect and direct communication styles. 3. Provide feedback to at least two of your classmates using correct grammar and sentence structure. Responses must demonstrate insight and foster continued learning. Responses that are short and do not demonstrate effort, such as simply stating "Good idea. I agree," will not receive full points. Students are encouraged to reference the discussion board grading rubric prior to posting and responding.

Communication styles might affect the communication between two persons and I have witnessed a situation before. Direct and indirect communication styles can impact a communication because a person with an indirect communication style might find direct communication as rude while for people with direct communication style following the gestures rather than the main communication can be confusing. I have noticed that people who belong to the collective culture such as the Asian people tend to have a more indirect way of communication; for example, they never say “no” directly rather they use “maybe” or “let’s see”.
